Balance charm with strategy

Avoiding “try-hard” language

🔹 Step 1: Start with the message

Before getting clever, ask:

What do I need the reader to know, feel, or do?

Clarity = priority. Don’t bury your core message under metaphors, jokes, or fluff. Start with substance.

🔹 Step 2: Layer in personality with intention

Once the message is clear, add voice like seasoning — enough to make it flavorful, not so much that it overpowers the meaning.

Use:

  • Tone: casual, cheeky, heartfelt, rebellious, etc.

  • Word choice: “Let’s chat” vs. “Book a consultation”

  • Rhythm: short punchy lines vs. long flowing ones

  • Figurative language: metaphors, playful phrases, pop culture references (if it fits the audience)

Example:
“Our CRM tool helps streamline your business operations.”
“Tame your inbox chaos and get your hours back — our CRM does the boring stuff so you don’t have to.”

🔹 Step 3: Avoid personality traps

  • Don’t sacrifice meaning for cleverness

  • Avoid inside jokes unless your audience is in on it

  • Don’t try to sound like someone else — that’s confusing and forgettable

Golden Rule: If the personality distracts from the message, tone it down. If it deepens connection, keep it in.
